myGovID / myID scams

The ATO are seeing a wave of ATO impersonation scams relating to the upcoming name change of myGovID to myID, which is occurring in mid-November 2024.

You do not need to reconfirm your details for myID

Scammers are sending SMS and email messages indicating that you need to reconfirm your details via a link.

The link directs users to a fraudulent myGov page where you will be asked to sign in . The page is intended to steal your personal information, including myGov / myID sign in credentials.

These details can be used for fraudulent activity such as identity theft or refund fraud.

What you mustn't do

  1. Don’t click links or use QR codes to access online services. Go direct to the website or app (downloaded from an official app store – Google Play or App Store).
  2. Don’t provide personal details requested through SMS or email. Phone the ATO on 1800 008 540.
  3. Never share your login details.
